2008 GROVELAND NEWSLETTER,
JIM MERRICK, SUPERVISOR
**************************
Happy New Year! Winter has started! Hope you are staying warm. It is that time of year again to bring you up to date on our town and county news.
Ambuscade Park: Not much to report, but this park is just as nice to visit in the winter.
The pavilion is available to reserve through the Town Clerk for any occasion. The summer dates book quickly!
Groveland Fire Department:
If you have not been to one of their pancake breakfast, you have to try it. You can see all the improvements that have been made at the fireman’s breakfasts. You better hurry there are only two left: February 10th and March 9th.
Groveland Highway Department:
It has been another busy year for our Highway Department. Abele Road is looking good; the top coat is scheduled this year. Within the budget, the highway will be doing some equipment updating.
The highway crew has been thankful for the large December prediction of snowfall that did not hit our area. The kids on the other hand may not agree!
As always, a big thank you to Greg Adamson and his highway crew, this includes Mark, Scott, Willie, John, Dave, Carl, and CY.
Conesus Lake: The Conesus Lake Association Inc. wrapped up it is celebrations of serving 75 years to the Laker’s. The solar bees are being pulled out, they actually worked in the areas they were placed; however, the lake would need thousands of them to be effective.
Town 2008 Budget: The 2008 budget has an increase from $3.50 to $3.60 per thousand assessed valuation. This was not so bad, considering all the fuel costs.
Livingston County: Another busy season. The 2008 County budget has a 1% increase from $7.07 to $7.10
Instead of me writing out all the accomplishments made in 2007 and planned for 2008, I have enclosed a portion of the State of the County. If you would like to view it in it’s entirety you can log on to the county website @ www.livinstoncounty.us , click on “What’s New”.
Points of Interest:
- We said farewell to Honorable Carl A. Benware, after serving 24 years as one of our town justices. He enjoyed all of those who were able to attend the party. I previously printed 28 years of service, either way it has been a devotion to our community. I am sure Carl will enjoy his retirement.
- Congratulations to our newest Justice, Honorable Jenean Love. Jenean has done all mandatory training, and is ready to serve our community. Best wishes.
- We say goodbye to Councilman R. William Clark (Bill), with his choice to enjoy retirement. It has been a pleasure to serve with you Bill.
- Congratulations to Burt Lyon on his election as Councilman. He comes to the table with government experience.
- I have received the reappointment to the County Chairman to the Board of Supervisors. I am honored and look forward to another successful year.
- Listeners of WYSL, I had the great pleasure of being interviewed on how the County and Town of Groveland stand. The scheduled air dates are January 13 & 14th. I hope it was well received.
- Groveland Station Water Corp. has finally transferred the water system over to the county. Many of you, as well as I, have been looking forward to this for a long time. In the future you will hear it referred as the Scottsburg Water Project the project has been awarded. Look for the progress even throughout the winter.
- The Town Clerk’s office has new office hours. Sandy felt the community would enjoy seeing her and Betty more often. Thank you to you both for all your hard work.
- The Planning and Zoning Boards are working hard to making some long over due updates to our zoning laws. We will try to keep you updated on them when they are finished.
- If you are someone that reads this newsletter and are not on the mailing list, and would like to be, please call the Town Clerk @ 243-1750, and Sandy will add you to my list.
In closing, as in the past, I want to thank you for your support, patience, and trust. Our town continues to be in solid financial shape.
As Chairman of the Board of Supervisors, I can say that Livingston County is also in excellent financial shape. We are moving ahead with our projects that will benefit all our Livingston County residents.
Have a safe winter and I look forward to a successful 2008!
